Wealth Attainment
Are the super-rich really happy?
Just consider the prevalence of drug and alcohol abuse among the wealthy. Money doesn’t bring them happiness; they resort to all sorts of excesses in a futile and often fatal attempt to find happiness.
The media, and society as a whole, holds up wealth attainment as some sort of “holy grail” but be careful what you wish for; it may be very disappointing if you get it!
Hi Art,
I have been reading your posts and find them interesting. My comment on wealth attainment is that it depends. By that I mean it depends on why you want to attain wealth. Is it just to buy more toys or is it because you want to contribute to something bigger than yourself. For me, I would like to be able to have enough to be comfortable and mostly to be able to support some of the good causes that are out there.
Yes, you’re right. A lot depends on your motivation.
It’s fine if you want to “be able to support some of the good causes that are out there” but it’s not so good if all you’re interested in having more “stuff.”
